I’m afraid neither Sara Paretsky or Christa Faust made this list (they came close) and I haven’t been reading Patricia Highsmith for awhile. If I’d read anything last year by Cynthia Ozick, Grace Paley, Clarice Lispector, Alice Munro, etc, I’m sure they’d be here, too. This year I’ll have to turn my attention away from the macho hardboiled canon.
